Afghan families score big in American guilt lottery

When is having a family member murdered by an American soldier like winning the lottery?

The families received around $50,000 for each person killed and about $10,000 for each wounded in the shootings in two villages in Panjwai district earlier this month.

Matt Taibbi with a different angle on Pepper Spray Boy

What happened at UC Davis was the inevitable result of our failure to make sure our government stayed in the business of defending our principles. When we stopped insisting on that relationship with our government, they became something separate from us.

Amazon.com: Gen. JC Christian: In Praise of Pepper Spray

Some people just get it.

I’m faced with a lot of dangerous situations at the nursing home. I give an order to move from the TV room to the cafeteria for a performance of the Tremonton 2nd Ward Primary Childrens’ Chorus and the codgers immediately surround me, leaning threateningly on their walkers.

NEWSFLASH! Pepper spray doesn’t hurt!

Pepper spray does not hurt, it “creates compliance”. The U.S.A. does not torture, it “intensely interrogates”. Pizza is not bread, cheese and tomato sauce, it’s a “vegetable”. Bank credit cards aren’t traps designed to suck as much cash out of your pocket as possible ion the form of interest and fees, they’re “smart money”. Freedom is slavery. War is peace. Ignorance is strength.

Orwell was right.

Charles J. Kelly, a former Baltimore Police Department lieutenant who wrote the department’s use of force guidelines, said pepper spray is a “compliance tool” that can be used on subjects who do not resist, and is preferable to simply lifting protesters.
“When you start picking up human bodies, you risk hurting them,” Kelly said.

Join the military: get your fat-ass wife in shape for free!

Over a decade taxpayers have spent $363 million dollars on the fat spouses of America’s military men and (hardly) women.

Is this free-ride past Jenny Craig part of the bloat that the Tea Party wants to get rid of? Or is the fact that military wives are getting free tummy tucks sacrosanct in this authority-worshiping culture?

And to the republic for Richard Stands

Simply put, this practice is outdated. It’s a holdover from the days when the state indoctrinated an “us against them” mentality in our children using groupthink and powerful symbols to reinforce the propaganda.

If anything our children should be swearing allegiance to traits of honesty, integrity, compassion, fairness, intelligence and service and not to the symbols of a country that may or may not be supporting those traits this week.

Texas lawmakers forcing Jesus on dead soldiers’ families

Straight quote with no comment = can’t say it better:

I really think the conservative tendency to create alternate realities for themselves is getting beyond even their control.

U.S. asks China a stupid ship question

As China’s first aircraft carrier takes to the open seas today for its inaugural sea trials, the U.S. government directed a pointed question at the Chinese military: Why would you need a warship like that?
